"my favorite thing in Bali is sunsets"

in conversation with the girl one ahead of me in the tragically long bathroom line of my Manila airport layover, I asked her what her favorite thing about Bali was. she had volunteered on a farm there for a month.

"hmm...the food," she said. "it's SO good. i miss it already." "the tempura, mmm!" she yelled over from another stall.

i dreamed of it as I deliriously situated myself in the stall. i was on hour 27 of 33 total travel hours...I think.

"wait...I thought about it more," she said as she was washing her hands.

"my favorite thing about Bali is the sunsets."

today her words seem justified.

the sunset reflected off of every beach surface it could, enlightening the whole scene with its warmth and beauty.

bats, feeling this shift, darted excitedly from the trees that lined the eshe of the tide's territory.

beachgoers lined this vegetation with plastic trees (umbrellas), surfboards, and fermentated beverages.

Kuta Beach, though touristy, had it all-- good swimming and surfing, a view of a volcano, expansive views, and easy access to food and drinks.
